Recently I was invited to the alpha of an upcoming indie MMO called The Skies. Of course I was excited to be on the ground level of the development cycle so I jumped in full steam. What I didn’t know was how little, actual game there is in an alpha.
Exploring the game I tried the best I could to see the creator’s vision, but it was difficult to get past the clunky controls and low resolution graphics. The combat was sluggish and the sound was strange and repetitive. Each mission was very vague and basic. The character creation was very slim, so I didn’t spent much time with it. Some of the writing in the game was written in another language as well, most likely because the developers are from Europe. The game is definitely nothing like the trailer I saw but I can see it’s heading in that direction.
By no means is this a review of the game, because like I said it’s an alpha. Rest assure I will continue to play the game as more updates arrive. I think, for me at least, seeing the evolution of a game and actually playing said evolution is the part that I’m most excited about. More updates for The Skies will come later.
